Johnnie Walker / Personalized AR experience
Johnnie Walker Blue Label, a symbol of craftsmanship and prestige, is often chosen as a gift for those celebrating significant moments. To elevate the gifting experience, I've partnered with Analog Folk to create an innovative AR experience that turned every bottle into a unique, interactive AR postcard.
This AR label allowed the gifter to design a one-of-a-kind motion visual, paired with personalized soundscapes and a heartfelt message, all brought to life through augmented reality.
Objective
The goal was to enhance the emotional connection between the gifter and the recipient by blending cutting-edge AR technology with the refined essence of the Johnnie Walker Blue Label.
By crafting an interactive, personalized motion label, I aimed to capture the recipient’s attention and create a memorable experience that reflected the premium nature of the whiskey itself.
Challenge
Creating this one-in-a-million AR experience posed a unique challenge: how could I design a system of millions of moving particles that would dynamically respond to user input while remaining visually stunning on a mobile device?
I needed to ensure that every element—from the particle animations to the sound and music—was customizable in real-time, offering gifters a seamless and intuitive design process that fit within the technical limitations of mobile AR.
Process
I began with a comprehensive audit of Johnnie Walker Blue Label’s refreshed visual identity, drawing inspiration from the label’s elegant design elements.
With this foundation, I entered an in-depth research and prototyping phase, focusing on balancing AR’s technical constraints with high-impact visuals and sound.
Every aspect of the project was crafted with attention to detail, ensuring the final AR label experience retained the luxurious feel synonymous with Johnnie Walker Blue Label while also functioning flawlessly on mobile devices.
Solution
The final solution allowed gifters to interact with vital points on the AR label, adjusting the particle visuals in real-time, creating mesmerizing motion designs.
Accompanying the visuals were carefully curated soundscapes, which adjusted based on the design, offering various moods and tempos.
This personalized AR label was then packaged within the beautifully designed Johnnie Walker gift box, with instructions guiding the recipient to unveil their custom message and visual experience using their smartphone.
Results
The project was met with immense success, with customers flocking to premium Johnnie Walker locations and airport stores worldwide to secure these limited-edition AR experience bottles.
This innovative approach not only deepened the emotional connection between the gifter and receiver but also reinforced Johnnie Walker Blue Label’s position as a luxury, forward-thinking brand.
